Merry Christmas, those of you who celebrate it! :)
My sister liked the dog. ♥
( The haul. )
FOCINZ party was pretty awesome. I threw together four performances: One Third Left singing It's My Life / Confessions Pt. II - Glee cast (I arranged vocally, Andrea choreographed on the day; Andrea, Kirby, and I had solos), Nicky and I singing The Twelve Days After Christmas - Frederick Silver, Nicky, Rachel, Raeann and I dancing Motteke! Sailor Fuku - Lucky Star OP (Raeann made newspaper pompoms), and Kirby and I singing Love Story - a combination of the Taylor Swift and Gabe Bond versions. GOOD TIMES.
(Greatest part on my end: We had the party pretty early this year since half of us are going camping tomorrow, so when we had the performances, it was actually a time of day at which I can sing.)
It's My Confessions was hilarious because we hadn't practiced much with the instrumental much so we had endless do overs. My favorite was the one when Kyra saw a bug and screamed as the music started.
Vidyas friends of friends locked on Facebook because folks are like OH GOD about our performances. XD; I have no sense of shame.
Kirb introduced a new game: One person holds onto a drink bottle and picks a category and one thing within that category. Example: Letters in the English alphabet. Go round the circle of players and each person guesses what the drink bottle holder is thinking of... Repeats and the correct answer get squirted.

Since I last posted to say how miserable I was without reliable sight aids, I should now say how lovely my new glasses are. How *their* anti-scratch coating has not done anything crazy like go wavy on its own. I can see. It's brilliant. Hurrah for sight.
Hurrah for smell, too. The Christmas tree is up in the lounge and it is wafting through the house. It's a sweeter, richer smell than I remembered. Why can no one do a realistic pine scent? All year there are astringent cleaning products and barely less astringent essential oils. The real deal is unapproachable.
Hurrah for taste.... it is the season of indulgence. And Alex got me tea, 'silver needle', a kind of tea I don't usually try. I shall have to sample it carefully. We also have approximately a cupboard's worth of leftover edibles from the party. The remnant that makes me most gleeful? BASIL PESTO. Forget all of the leftover chocolate. BASIL PESTO.
And Nik knitted me a handbag - in black and green Fair Isle, a flower pattern. It looks gorgeous. It also feels wonderful. It swings delightfully from its two thick (knitted) green cords. It is soft. It is snuggly. The inside, which looks trippy on the outside, is a network of interwoven smooth straight lines which are nice to follow with my fingers. Hurrah for feeling.
I don't know what to put for hearing. I could be impressed about how quietly Stephanie keeps managing to leave the house in the morning, but that's kind of an opposite. Maybe I'll use something that happened a few weeks ago. The sound of my voice by itself in a room for of people, at the work party for staff of Human Synergistics and their partners. Jenny's partner David said, "I gave the thank-you speech last year. Will you do it?" And I did, despite the fact that I was the youngest person there in a room full of highly competent, highly successful people, and very nervous. The sound of laughter at the joke(s) I made. Hurrah for hearing.

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney: Justice for All |
] |
Characters I've been contemplating playing various places lately, mostly for lulz but some for reals and so I should get stuck into their apps (see, if I say something where people can see I'm more likely to do it):
New Zealand - Hetalia OC Pearl Fey - Ace Attorney (Actually I'd love to play spirit!Mia but like. I've only played Justice for All, lulz. Besides, I think I mostly want to play her because she is one smokin' dead chick.) Mao - Code Geass Akira Kogami or Yutaka Kobayakawa - Lucky Star Brittany - Glee Shirou Emiya - Fate/Stay Night (I've only seen the anime, though, heh)

Raeann is still at my side playing Justice for All. It's kind of cute. However, the advantage of her chilling in my room playing rather than playing in the car or out shopping is that I can shove a dictionary at her when she doesn't know a word instead of flailing around trying to define a word. :D She's up to episode two.

Filling in visa applications is a pain. At least I'm not a dude so I don't have to fill in another form. (Yeah, I don't know why they do that...)
Then again, I think the biggest pain here is the section about have you gone to the States before, have you had a United States visa before: I've been sending Mom (keeper of all such things) digging out my old passports and my (expired) Resident Alien card. Seems like it would have been easier if I was a total n00b to the States...
On more cheerful notes: Rocked on up to my primary school carols today to watch my sister. My old house (her house) is now like half Filipino and thus is a house full of midgets. They did pretty good! And they came second in the house cup. :) Damn Monaghan. There's something about red houses...
Sophie came over today to pick up some DVDs and we hung out on the lawn and down at the park because it's such a gorgeous day. Sweet.
The office I clean is on the same floor as a dentist, and my cleaning does involve wandering down the hall to the rubbish. One of the tools they use sounds like the TARDIS. I wear sneakers to work and live in hope.

Tonight was my last night of Rangers. That's the end of four years of Rangers (in ten years of selling biscuits Guiding, but I really want to go help out with Girl Scouts next year so FINGERS CROSSED, maybe I won't have to take this icon down after all).
I was half-joking that it was my seventh form ball seeing as I missed mine and, well, I was in a gown! The last few years at Rangers we've had this tradition of dressing up formal for the end of year party...purely so us senior girls got another chance to wear our ball dresses because when else are we going to wear them. In my case it was just one of those gowns I went and bought for $30 just because they were $30.
Wasn't very ballish, of course. We spent forever setting up and catching up and eating and then played Rock Band like the n00bs we are (we'll just ignore my ZOMG MEDIUM on drums). Though I did get a bit of a dance in, heh. (Of course, I forgot my camera like an idiot, so no photos.)
It's like the end of an era, because I can be that overdramatic on my own journal. I might not have been the best Ranger, in fact I'm pretty sure I was the biggest underachiever in Aratahi, but Rangers (or Guiding) has been a huge part of my life regardless. I met some of my best friends whom I'm still friends with now through Guiding. Rangers has done wonders for my social life and my love life. I've learned a lot, not just about other cultures/religions/careers/etc etc etc but about life, dealing with other people, leadership, teamwork... The girls of Aratahi and our leaders over the years have been there for me through craziness and through hysterical breakdowns (NCEA Level 3 is srs bizness); Aratahi has saved my sanity and at one point my life (and unlike the "end of an era" thing this is actually serious, not just being overdramatic).
And so I've uploaded Guiding photos from 2004 to September, with no photos from 2006 or 2008 (I just didn't have any). I'd have put in photos from before that (like my first enrolment into WAGGGS! Brownies; my eighth birthday) but it's a bit late to scan stuff when the scanner is in my parents' room. The Ranger photos start from the eighth shot on the second page; prior to that is Guides. The QUALITY photography in some of those earlier photos really amuses me. :P Feel free to ask for the story behind any.
EDIT: An ad what we made years ago.
Stand out memories from Aratahi, apart from the aforementioned breakdown over school:
Biscuit stalls~ Car shopping Playing the board game what we made Kidnapping Celine as ninjas and enroling her as pirates Pirates and ninjas being forced to work together at a quiz night Youth Forum we hosted Playing with Pippins Anzac Day sleepover and dawn parade Trip out to Stonehenge Aotearoa...and 3/4 of the unit grumbling about missing the Doctor Who finale that night Cleaning out the tiger cage at Wellington Zoo Faking a car crash at a Youth Forum we hosted to teach everyone what to do in an emergency Various enrolments and award presentations, by which I mean hazings over the years Dealing with Jaime running into a table
